Join CIDDE for an author-led book discussion of Advice is for Winners How to Get Advice for Better Decisions in Life and Work.

Raul Valdes-Perez co-founded the business software company Vivisimo in 2000 and led it as CEO and chairman through 2009, then becoming executive chairman until the acquisition by IBM in 2012. He was a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University, where he also received his computer science PhD in 1991. You can read his complete bio on his author page.

Valdes-Perez will discuss how to be proactive and skilled in seeking advice for making better decisions in life and work. Advice offers more than just solutions, but people often fail to seek it, for intellectual, emotional, social, and even biological reasons. After reviewing self-help books, research, and folk wisdom, he’ll offer a comprehensive view of, and good practices for, advice seeking, drawing on academic, personal, and entrepreneurial experience. Based on his book Advice is for Winners.
